Initiative

The Long Life is a research to venture initiative on how Aging will unfold new products, services and systems in the near future.

The Long Life Initiative is a new initiative led by LSE Generate and incorporating research and expertise from leading universities along with our partners at Transformative Times a European design-led innovation agency.

This first-of-a-kind programme is designed to drive innovation in healthy aging, empowering students and alumni to develop solutions at the intersection of health, technology, and longevity.

By leveraging cutting-edge research, mentorship, funding, and industry partnerships, the initiative aims to redefine what it means to age well in a rapidly changing world. In its first year, the programme will focus on lifestyle interventions for mental health and loneliness in aging populations.

A global perspective on the future of Aging

The programme spans six countries—UK, US, Portugal, Spain, Brazil (in partnership with Ashoka Foundation), and the Philippines (TBC) and is structured to move from research and ideation to venture creation, industry partnerships, and market entry.

The research phase will involve benchmarking global best practices, including a planned visit to Tokyo and create a state-of-play report incorporating existing and new research.

The hybrid venture development phase will select early-stage teams from each country, who will receive tailored support through workshops, academic insights, and access to corporate partnerships who will host in-person local (global!) events too.

The final stages will focus on securing funding and integrating startups into accelerators and investment networks.

Gathering the like-minded change-makers.

In order to generate collective intelligence, we need to find people who think like us. Combining that expertise and perspectives will help organizations leap forward in what is about to come regarding aging.

How shall we age?

A concern for Everyone

Our initiative revolves around the research question “how shall we age?” to uncover new products and services for a new aging age.

The initiative focuses on how aging will impact all generations and the hidden forces shaping the new products and services that will drive the next decade.

How do we get ready for aging times?

In its first year, the programme will focus on lifestyle interventions for mental health and loneliness in aging populations.

We designed a research-to-venture program allowing us to use the current problems to design tomorrow solutions and tell us how to get there

Our research program, which we call “expedition” is based on 4 fundamental pillars.
